The Theodore Enslin Number of Occurrence
Edited by John Wilson

I heard a shower of leaves
against the roof
and
thought it was you.
Sure of it, I called out.
A few more leaves came down
and answered.
It makes no difference.
You were there
answering me,
a man spinning webs
out of secrets.
I am coming now
with the new dress.
A dress of leaves
becomes you.
