From “A Concise History of Chaos”
Wizened with winter but promising glory,
John C. Frémont is about to descend yet again
on the pastoral populace,
each branch bandoliered with blooms
which detonate yellow yellow yellow
exploding sun-barbs even on sunless days
peppering London’s shades of grey with
the bleached dry light of California,
destabilizing the less aggressive
denizens and promising,
promising brilliant Pacific prospects.
